Most reportable accidents occur during morning rush hour, between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM then taper off a bit. They then increase gradually to peak at evening rush hour (4:00 PM to 5:00 PM) then again taper off during evening hours.
72% of reportable accidents occur in clear, dry weather. 12% occur during rain and another 12% during snow or sleet conditions. The rest involve other air conditions such as smog, fog, and dust.
Approximately half of reportable accidents are intersection related or occur in an intersection.
Single motor vehicle accidents account for the majority of fatal accidents with intersection related accidents a close second.
Approximately 30% of injury related accidents occur with traffic control (someone disobeyed a red light).
