Gearing Up Introduction
The Gearing-Up Introduction course is a new course that we began offering in 2009. This course is geared towards people who would like to be introduced to the basic operation of motorcycles, and is not intended to qualify people to operate a motorcycle on the streets nor provide sufficient training for a person to pass the skills portion of any motorcycle licensing course.

What You Get:
By completing the Gearing Up program, you will receive personal training and coaching in basic riding skills by qualified instructors who are, themselves, dedicated motorcycle riders. This course is ideal for people who feel they require more practice prior to starting the full Gearing-Up course or for a person who isn’t sure that motorcycling is for them. If you have some experience riding a motorcycle you should be looking at the Gearing-Up course; if you were previously licensed but have not ridden in several years the Gearing Up Refresher course may be an option – please consult the office for further information.

Course Outline:
The course consists of three hours of hands-on riding instruction and practice. The course introduces the basic controls and operation of the motorcycle. We provide the motorcycle for your riding, and you get exclusive use of it for the day. Riding practice takes place rain or shine, on a series of parking lots in Ottawa. Detailed maps and location instructions are available.

Prerequisites:
To participate in the Gearing-Up Introduction program, you must comply with the following rules and conditions.

You must be qualified to apply for your M1 motorcycle license.

You must have proper riding gear, which will be inspected the morning of the course by your instructor and must be worn during the riding practice.

Because we want to maximise your riding time, and because many lessons are prerequisites to later lessons, the schedule is critical. Please come prepared to remain on-site for the full day. You will have a lunch break with time to visit one of the nearby fast-food restaurants, but you will not have time to leave the site for coffee breaks or to do other weekend chores. Bring refreshments with you and be prepared to dedicate your time and attention to the riding practice.

You must use the motorcycles we provide for the course - you may not use your own motorcycle.

Because you will be riding our motorcycles, you do not have to own your own bike and you do not have to have motorcycle insurance in place to take our course. (You do, of course, need motorcycle insurance if you plan to ride your bike, using your M1 license, to our course.)

Your instructor is responsible for your safety and the safety of the other students. If your instructor feels you are unable to develop the necessary skills to safely operate a motorcycle, they are authorized to ask you to withdraw from the course. Unsafe behaviour of any kind will also result in your removal from the course.

Fees: $52.50 (Includes applicable taxes)
The fee includes all of your training, course materials, and handouts; the full use of a motorcycle, fuel, and oil for the riding session. The fee does not include riding gear, which you must supply, or meals and refreshments.

Schedule and Registration:
Please contact the office for schedule dates.
